  • Lumen recusat – Unlonn's Latin motto, “the light declines.”
  • Reluctant light – Discredited 19th-century doctrine that light arrives where it pleases.
  • Lucian Sheen – The self-styled 'contrary advocate' who insisted he was a man of the globe and, across twenty years, only ever argued the plane.
  • Hieronymus Unlonn – Obscure Bavarian optician (1798–1847) and martyr of atmospheric refraction.
